In 1980, Flamengo won the Brazilian Championship for the first time. Back then, the competition format was different, and a final was played between two teams.
During that year, Flamengo lost the first game 1-0 to Atletico Mineiro but won 3-2 at home. By the goal difference criterion, they were crowned champions.

In 1982, Flamengo won the Brazilian Championship for the second time, this time the final was against Gremio.
The championship was determined in a tiebreaker third match, as the initial two games concluded in draws. Flamengo won the third game 1-0 and became the Brazilian Serie A champions.

In 1983, Flamengo secured its first consecutive championship title in the Brasileirão Serie A. This time the final was against Santos. The team lost the first game 2-1 but won 3-0 at home, ensuring the Brazilian championship title.

In 1987, Flamengo won their 4th title, this time the final was against Internacional. The first game ended in a 1-1 draw, but in the second, Flamengo won 1-0 and secured the title.

Flamengo didn’t win the Brazilian Championship again until 2009, this time in the point race format of the Brasileirão. That year, the team scored 67 points, winning 19 games and drawing 10.

Ten years later, Flamengo their 6th Brazilian Championship. Under the management of Jorge Jesus, the team had a brilliant campaign. The team won the championship with 28 victories, 6 draws, and only 4 losses.

The last time Flamengo lifted the Brasileirão trophy was in 2020. On this occasion, the team won 21 games, drew 8, and lost 9, crowning themselves champions with 71 points in the last round of the competition.
